The Senior Systems Engineer will work within the IT Infrastructure team, primarily managing and maintaining the fleet of physical and virtual assets both on-premise and in public cloud. The role will be a mixture of project and BAU tasks.

Our System Engineers have a lot of influence on the technical direction of Infrastructure services, and you'll be involved in helping to shape the future of our cutting-edge Infrastructure and the team that builds them. As a senior member of the team, you'll be helping to build the knowledge of other team members and applying your deep technical knowledge to challenging problems.

Key responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for using a wide range of technologies, combining strategic work with quick-win tactical work
  • You will be responsible for liaising directly with the architecture team, engineering teams, operations and release teams, sharing best practices
  • Participating in design and development meetings in order to ensure the infrastructure required for new projects is identified and put in place to meet the project objectives
  • Proactively seek areas of improvement across the infrastructure portfolio
  • Specification of new servers used to extend the development infrastructure and the test lab
  • Provisioning, maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure assets on premise, in data centres and in the cloud

Key activities

  • You will be responsible for the technical requirements, producing technical designs, server configuration templates and the automation required to manage Linux infrastructure
  • Monitoring and maintenance of Linux Infrastructure
  • Security patching and server hardening of Linux Infrastructure
  • Assist in the planning, testing and migration of workloads into public cloud infrastructure
  • Exchange knowledge with other colleagues and suggest product improvements
  • Work with team leads to define the technology roadmap for the Infrastructure and cloud environment

Required skills

  • 5+ years’ experience in the technology industry
  • Strong Linux / UNIX systems engineering experience (Ubuntu preferred)
  • Virtualisation and cloud computing experience (Azure preferred)
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, PHP)
  • Experience with Automation tools such as Ansible or Puppet
  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with cloud migration planning and implementation
  • Strong customer engagement and requirements gathering
  • Experienced with Agile project delivery

  • ITIL Certification
  • AWS Certification
  • Azure Certification
  • Windows Server
  • Experience with Big Data/Hadoop
  • Hybrid Cloud solution design
  • Automated Infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Understanding of Kerberos and integrating Linux/UNIX with Windows AD
  • Knowledge of security best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple project streams with varying priorities whilst delivering on BAU
