Role Summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Product Owner to join the fast-paced Retail Product team.

Reporting to the Product Manager, the role will focus on delivering a product roadmap that balances overall retail portfolio product strategy with client requests. Acting as the Product Owner within an agile environment, you will be responsible for executing the product roadmap working with internal teams and prioritising the product backlog, as well as assisting with continuous validation of the product being built.

We know you’re not a bullet point, but here is some of what you will be doing:

  • Defining stories and prioritising team backlog to streamline execution of product priorities
  • Representing the customer and the Product Manager in key Scrum ceremonies and ensuring key product outcomes are achieved
  • Supporting the Product Manager in collating and interpreting market and client needs into product opportunities
  • Assisting the Product Manager in developing personas, conducting customer discovery interviews and running alpha and beta product programs
  • Assisting the Product Manager with product vision, roadmap, customer research and release planning
  • Developing user stories, acceptance criteria and owning the product backlog and working collaboratively with the team to deliver it
  • Monitoring key dates and checkpoints for product releases and deliverables (in conjunction with Delivery Manager) to ensure backlog is groomed and development team can progress to completion
  • Measuring and reporting on product performance metrics
  • Resolving production support queries in line with agreed service levels
  • Measuring and reporting on adherence to change, release and incident management procedures


We know talent can come in different shapes and forms, but some key things we would like to see from you include:

  • Around 2 years of experience as a Product Owner and 5 years of professional experience in a software-based product development team or organisation
  • Previous BA experience in the FMCG / Retail domain with an appetite to learn ‘product’ will also be considered
  • Practical experience in product management and Agile, Scrum and Lean start-up methodologies is desirable
  • Experience working in a data driven product organisation or a team will be highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge of the FMCG / Retail domain
  • Sufficiently technical to discuss and drive solutions with development teams
  • Previous experience in running structured customer discovery interviews and working through product development cycle to achieve product-market fit
  • Previous experience in Scrum ceremonies and ensuring adherence to best practices and continuous improvements
  • The ability to articulate complex market problems, interpret and understand data at a high level
  • A self-starter with strong business acumen, with initiative and ability to take ownership until resolution
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Collaborative and adaptable work style
  • Appetite to work in a fast-paced services and product business
  • Post graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline will be highly regarded
