Role summary

  • The Database Administrator role would require a background in administering the whole environment with little or less manual intervention and automate the tasks for daily purpose.
  • Should be able to write efficient T-SQL & work pro-actively in the environment.
  • The Database Admin is pivotal to ensure that data assets are received, processed stored and protected successfully on a regular basis and are ready for use.
  • Monitoring tools like Solarwinds and any other industry specific tools are desired.
  • Experience across multiple SQL Database platforms is a huge plus.
  • Should be well versed with Security and Governance across the environment.
  • As part of an Operations team, examine existing processes for opportunities to streamline, automate and improve. As an example, the role will include support of existing ETL’s and requires the Database Admin to improve the stability and effectiveness of these processes wherever practicable to do so.
  • Working with internal business stakeholders including the product team, analysts, engineers, data management and external clients and data partners to support regular processing and availability of data assets.
  • Ongoing maintenance, administration and reporting of the User Access Database tool

 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure that Database operations are meeting defined service levels for timeliness, accuracy and delivery
  • Monitoring multiple ETL processes to ensure that the data has been transported and landed in a secure and controlled fashion
  • Ensure that data assets are managed and protected on a daily basis, that key issues are identified and resolved in a timely and effective manner by raising tickets, managing tickets and resolving them to minimise business and customer impact
  • Maintaining key data operational process documentation covering:
    • Data structures
    • Process steps
    • Specifications and design
    • Location and naming of files and infrastructures
    • Technologies required and used
    • Process flows of data
    • Business rules
    • Service levels
    • Escalation protocols
  • Enhancement and maintenance of existing data operational processes, including:
    • The development of new functionality
    • Small scale redesign
    • Root cause analysis of issues and
    • Bug fixes as necessary
    • Communication with key stakeholders
  • Continuous improvement to drive better performance of data operational processes such as reduction of issues, improving timeliness, stability and automation
  • Able to handle administration for data partner user access ensuring business rules are applied in accordance with Data Governance requirements.

 

Experience and education required

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, IT, Maths, Physics, Engineering or Statistics
  • 4-6 years working experience working in a data driven operational environment
  • Advanced technical experience with SQL Server and Big Data Platforms
  • Extensive experience with scripting languages and the design and implementation of large ETL systems
  • Experience with Microsoft BI Stack SSIS/SSAS/SSRS and dimensional modelling
  • Experience with non-Microsoft databases such as Teradata and with scripting languages such as R, C#, Microsoft Analysis Services, Dimensional Modelling or BI reporting tools such as MicroStrategy and Tableau highly regarded
  • Problem solving and issue management experience under service level delivery conditions.
