Senior Analyst – Data Management

The role

The Senior Data Analyst sits within the team responsible for our data partners and prepares data to be ready for the rest of the business.

It is pivotal that core data assets are up-to-date, accurate and available. So, as you would expect, the team are detail oriented, curious, and focused on exploring data to its core.  We work closely with our data partners and engaging with them, so whilst this is a technical role, you’ll be managing cross functional stakeholders too.

 Day to day, your role will involve:

 

  • Applying knowledge of data modelling, data transformation, data quality management, analytical design, and optimisation to strategic projects and BAU processes. 
  • Performing data analysis including data modelling (descriptive analytics) to achieve business outcomes
  • Leading a small team of one or more analysts working with developers to deliver small to medium projects including getting very hands on
  • Using SQL, Python and Big Data technologies such as Scala and Spark
  • Responsible for analytical output, including making day-to-day technical and commercial trade-offs
  • Taking a structured and analytical approach in troubleshooting data issues and problems
  • Liaising with customers of the product, both internal and external, to respond to queries and objections, and communicate updates relating to delivery of new features and BAU
  • Participation in Analytics Community initiatives, such as Analytics Review for other projects, organisation, or facilitation at events, etc.

 

What skills and experience are needed?

  • A strong background and understanding of data structures, data manipulation and transformation
  • A love of data – really enjoying exploring data to its core and with exceptional attention to detail
  • Sound knowledge of technical analytics discipline, including data preparation, feature engineering and foundational analytics concepts, model development and model training
  • Excellent understanding and application of SQL. Python is advantageous, as is Spark and Scala
  • Previous experience in the fields of data science or high level data analysis; data modelling experience highly regarded
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to apply a systematic problem solving approach
  • Solid interpersonal skills, as the role will need to work in a cross-functional team with both other analysts and specialists from non-analytics disciplines
  • Commercial acumen to understand business needs and the commercial impacts of different analytics solutions or approaches
  • Solid client and stakeholder management skills
