Apply

Quantium are continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. We look forward to meeting you in person when our offices re-open and it is safe to do so.

Founded in 2002, Quantium combines the best of human and artificial intelligence to power possibilities for individuals, organisations and society. Our solutions make sense of what has happened and what will, could or should be done to re-shape industries and societies around the needs of the people they serve.

We have a wonderful opportunity for someone who loves both Python and UI development, to help us grow our Python engineering capabilities and join Australia’s leading Data Science and AI company.

Our opportunity

We are increasing our uptake in Python organisationally and this role will play a big part in the change. While our engineering practice has historically focused on dotnet, Scala and React, we are using more Python every day. As our technology shifts, we need someone who can show our engineers the pythonic way; and help our analysts as they bring more engineering discipline to their existing expertise. We've added first-class support for Dash in our UI library, as it is rapidly becoming the tool of choice for analysts.

Working as part of a cohesive and collaborative cross-functional team, you’ll be rubbing elbows (because social distancing of course!) with product managers, UX/UI designers, analysts, testers and fellow engineers. You’ll make a positive contribution as an expert in your field who is excited by the idea of mentoring and training your team in your language of love – Python!

Whilst writing well-tested code day to day may be a given, here are a few other things you’ll master at Quantium:

  • Building up the python skill of the team, and in turn picking up other areas of our stack
  • Supporting analysts building branded dashboards using Plotly Dash
  • Contributing to Qbit, our in-house UI library (supporting React and Dash)
  • Influencing what we build and how we build it
  • Participating in our agile ceremonies
  • Performing code reviews
  • Wrangling CI, CD, and local development to "sharpen the saw"

From a stack perspective - typically we maintain a React Single Page Application (SPA) written in TypeScript, backed by C# .NET Core services, querying big datasets in CosmosDB and Snowflake, populated by Scala and Spark. We've adopted Kubernetes for orchestrating our core services and products, moving to a gitops model driving builds, configuration and deployment.

We see Python adding to these capabilities. We have tasks where we believe it's the right tool for the job, and we want to get better at using it.

Our new team member

We are lookign for you to bring the following knowledge, skills and experience to the team:

  • You'll have experience designing, building, testing and maintaining web applications in Python. You understand API contracts and how they enable sensible separation of concerns. You know how to put a UI layer on top of the app (or you are keen to learn)
  • You'll be familiar with RESTful API design and microservices, and can explain the pros and cons of both, you keep up with industry trends, but focus on solving the right problem the right way.
  • You know your PEPs from your pips (or perhaps you're more into Poetry) but you can remember what it was like when these were still problematic
  • You're good at collaborating with people across disciplines, including design. When it comes to development and interface design discussions, you’re comfortable advocating your ideas and critique other's constructively
  • Must have a passion for mentoring others, as well as setting goals for your own learning and development – we’re all about growth
